The Prez Speaks
Thanks and appreciation for 2013:
Hello and good tidings to all of our members from the Fair Street-Butler High Schools Alumni Association, Inc., Board of Directors. First I want to say thank you, and thank you again to all of those who attended and/or contributed to the 2013 Reunion, this past Labor Day Weekend at Lake Lanier Island Legacy Resort. As your board, it was our honor and pleasure to serve you, and put forth our best effort to make it a fun filled and enjoyable weekend. We truly enjoyed seeing, conversing, reminiscing and spending time with many schoolmates and friends that we had not seen in several years. For those of you who didn’t attend, we want you to know that you were missed very much, and we encourage you to make every effort to attend future events.
We get together as a large group only once every other year. Sadly, at each reunion some who enjoyed the previous reunion, have left our presence. Therefore, it is incumbent on each of us to make the best of the time that God allows us to be together. Also, each of us should campaign to our children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to attend and participate in all events that pertain to the heritage and legacies of Fair Street and Butler High Schools; the Gainesville and Hall County Communities.
Also, remember that we are an established 501c non-profit organization, which means we are in operation year round, every year. So to that end, as the saying goes, “It takes money to make money” and to maintain continuing day to day operations. We are always busy planning and organizing fundraisers and other efforts in order to support our scholarship fund. We encourage all former students & teachers, friends, relatives, and associates to be vigilant and ready to help support our efforts to provide financial assistance to deserving high school graduates, who are inspired to attend a college or technical school. In short, the Association always needs your financial support.
NEW information about the 2015:
It has been a few months since the 2013 Reunion, and we, as your Board of Directors haven’t been in communication with you, the members. However, you can rest assured that we have been busy working on your behalf. We ran into a couple of “snags” this time in securing our 2015 reunion location. It turned into a three month ordeal, but we were able to work through it and get it resolved. We will again meet at the Lake Lanier Island Legacy Resort in Hall County, Georgia.
There are a couple of changes for 2015 that you need to aware of early on. (1) The reunion will be held on the weekend of August 28 – 30, 2015, which is the week before the Labor Day Weekend. (2) The 2015 room rate at the Legacy Lodge has increased to $199.00 per night. Since our initial contract with the Lanier Island in 2010, they have allowed us to maintain the room rate of $159.00 per night, without an increase. That price was always far below their normal rate, which has increased every year, for all others. The $199.00 room rate was not accomplished without several meetings, exchanges and negotiations. In November 2013, the offered rate was $249.00 per night, then in December 2013, $232.00, and finally the $199.00 rate came in late January 2014. During the time of negotiations with the Lanier Island, we contacted, visited and negotiated with three (3) other hotels and/or resorts, including Chateau Elon, also in Hall County. OVERALL, Lanier Island made the most reasonable offer of all, even with the rate increase.
