Remember Uncle John and Miss Estelle Turner

Remember Uncle John and Miss Estelle Turner? Sitting on the corner…watching the cars pass…Remember when…we used to play “That’s my car” (every time my car would come by, it would be a chicken truck! boy, the guys laughed at me) …Remember when “white folks” would have to stop at Athens Street and Summit by Daddy Poole…and they would lock their car doors? some were so scared that they ran the light!… I remember them trying not to look at us…and don’t let it be when a lot of us were standing there…it would almost be automatic that they ran that light!… Seeing James Brown on Athens Street as a little boy…Remember the riot at City Park?… Okay, I won’t name anybody to protect the guilty!!!! Going to the “Produce Row” and my friends would get the men or women to look one way and we took off with fruit the other way…hanging out in “The Branch” until things cooled down…we played in “The Branch”…we were very adventurous back then…playing football with my brother-in-law Curtis Young…they let me run the ball while they blocked “up in the field”…Zero coming home from Vietnam and some guys were fighting in the field, so Zero told them…”If ya’ll want to fight…Go to Vietnam…they are looking for a few good men!”…I’ll never forget Zero, Lamar Turner!… Remember those rabbit ears on the TV…and what about those pliers (old school remote!)…TV antennas that the wind would blow just when the movie got good…Tarzan…Armchair Playhouse…Dark Shadows…Paladine…and many more…Now I got plenty more so you just stay tuned and…DON’T TOUCH THEM, PLIERS…We will be right back…
