Let Us Not Forget

Reunion 09 was an astonishing success beyond my wildest dream. I am proud of those who organized this event and even prouder of those who took time out of their busy schedules to attend. Already I am hearing people talk about the next reunion. A big thank you to those new board members that agreed to serve on the board for the next reunion. The focus on the championship football teams added much excitement to this event. It’s my hope that such recognition will become a regular staple for future reunions. Fair Street and Butler High Schools have so much history that has never been told. I would encourage everyone to contribute a historical post by someone or something from the school. Listening to the speech given by the speaker at the reunion inspired me to hear about others that walked thru the doors of Butler and Fair Street. People, we were ahead of our time. We had great people, not just athletes. I would like to hear about them. Since I have put out the challenge, I will start with the first story. Few realize that Carlton (Bunny) Brown was a world-class athlete at Morehouse College. I understand that Carlton still holds a track record at the school. Carlton preceded Edwin Moses at Morehouse. Carlton competed against other notable athletes such as Bob Hayes and Bob Paramore from Florida A & M University. Bob Hayes was once rated the world’s fastest human and was a star with The Dallas Cowboys. Carlton was also a teammate of Arthur Walker, who competed in the triple jump in the Olympics. To all of you that represented our community, I say thank you.
