LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the Fair Street-Butler High Schools Alumni Association, Inc. (FSBHSAA) website. Fair Street and E.E. Butler were high schools for African Americans in Gainesville/ Hall County. Georgia and surrounding areas during racial segregation. The principal, staff, students, and the community created a legacy of excellence, success, and pride. The sports teams, marching band, and choruses performed consistently in a manner that supported and heightened the pride of the small, tightly-knit African American (then Colored) community. The final class graduated in 1969, as students attended the previously all-White schools in the students’ localities. Our organization strives to Preserve the heritage and Prepare that proud community’s future. Former students of the schools formed a Reunion Committee to sponsor a biennial school reunion initially. The Reunion Committee of 1991 has morphed into a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that raises funds to support the community through scholarships and projects to continue the heritage and help the community’s people thrive.

We are constantly looking for ways to accomplish our mission and for people to help us. We welcome you to join us if you are interested in volunteering your time, knowledge, or financial sponsorship.

John W. Harris, President

Class of 1965
